African coffees reflect the rich diversity of the continent from which they hail. Each growing region (e.g., Zimbabwe, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi and Rwanda to name a few) offers unique beans whose tastes are informed by different altitudes and growing factors. While Zimbabwe coffees typically grow at an altitude of 3,000 feet, beans from Tanzania are found at 4,000 to 5,000 feet, and those from Ethiopia or Kenya may hail from mountain tops that reach 6,000 feet above sea level. Harvest periods can range from late spring/early summer (Tanzania) through December (Kenya). These environmental characteristics contribute to the various flavor profiles of coffees from across Africa, including the bright, vibrant coffees of Kenya, the floral notes in beans from Ethiopia, the spiciness of Tanzania, the sweetness of Malawi and the rich, savory spice tones found in Zimbabwe beans. When you select one of 9th Street Coffee's African delights, rest asured that it is a journey in every cup.
